On August 25, 2011, an intense rescue operation unfolded off the coast of Scheveningen, where the tanker 'Sten Skagen', anchored nearby, played a pivotal role in saving a distressed fisherman. The fisherman was discovered drifting in the water, clinging tightly to a cooler, and was promptly rescued by the crew of the 'Sten Skagen'. The fisherman recounted that his fishing vessel, known as 'S 105', had capsized while attempting to raise its anchor. While one individual managed to cling to the overturned hull, another was swept away by the powerful currents. In response to the emergency, the Coast Guard initiated a search and rescue (SAR) operation, deploying an aircraft and a helicopter to assist. Remarkably, two hours later, the 'Sten Skagen' made a critical observation that led to a breakthrough. The Coast Guard aircraft, upon arriving at the specified coordinates, found the stranded fisherman on the hull of the capsized fishing boat. Assistance continued as the CG vessel 'Zeearend' arrived to take the fisherman onboard. Concurrently, the vessel 'Kitty Rose Male Nepveu' facilitated the transfer of the other fisherman from the 'Sten Skagen' to 'Zeearend'. In a further effort to ensure their health, a doctor was lowered by helicopter to assess the two fishermen. They were later transported to a local hospital in Scheveningen for treatment. Additionally, the lifeboats 'George Dijkstra' and 'De Redder', launching from Ter Heijde and Katwijk respectively, teamed up with the Coast Guard vessel 'Zirfea' to assist in the recovery of the capsized 'S 105'. The lifeboat 'George Dijkstra' successfully righted the fishing boat and towed it back to Scheveningen, where it was lifted out of the water safely.
