On March 19, 2020, at 11:45 p.m., the oil tanker 'Stena Important' faced a perilous situation when it was targeted by a group of eight armed pirates. The vessel was anchored approximately 14 nautical miles southwest of Douala, precisely at coordinates 003 24 00N, 009 15 00E. Fortunately, the incident was quickly resolved without harm to either the ship or its crew, who were reported to be safe following the attack.

In an exciting development for maritime logistics, Concordia Maritime has officially received the Stena Important, a 50,000 dwt IMOIIMAX MR tanker, from Guangzhou Shipbuilding International (GSI) in China on 15 October. This vessel marks a significant addition to a fleet that includes ten such innovative tankers, of which Concordia Maritime holds ownership of two. The Stena Important is designed with incredible versatility in mind, allowing it to efficiently transport a range of cargoes, from oil and petroleum products to vegetable oils and chemicals, enhancing operational flexibility in maritime transport. Set to arrive in a European port for discharge in early December, the Stena Important's naming ceremony will coincide with its arrival, further adding to the festivities. The development of the IMOIIMAX concept has been a collaborative effort between Stena Teknik and GSI, with the original order placed by Stena Bulk back in 2012. Earlier in the year, the first vessel of this series, Stena Impression, was ceremoniously named in Singapore, followed by the successful deliveries of Stena Image and Stena Imperial. Looking ahead, the final six tankers in this ambitious series are slated for delivery by 2017, which will enhance the operational capacity of Stena Weco’s global logistics network, now comprising over 60 vessels.
