The innovative IMOIIMAX chemical tanker, with a deadweight tonnage of 50,000 DWT, is specifically designed for the efficient transportation of vegetable oils, chemicals, as well as both clean and dirty petroleum products. A standout feature of this vessel is its configuration of 18 equally sized tanks, each boasting a capacity of 3,000 m3, which significantly enhances cargo flexibility. Implementing a host of cutting-edge technical solutions, the IMOIIMAX operates with a 10-20% reduction in fuel consumption when compared to similar-sized vessels, making it both an economical and environmentally friendly option. This unique vessel design was developed through a collaboration between Stena Teknik and the Chinese shipyard Guangzhou, with Stena Bulk placing an order for ten IMOIIMAX tankers back in 2012. The inaugural vessel, STENA IMPRESSION, was officially delivered during a naming ceremony held in Singapore on February 4th. The remaining nine tankers from this series are scheduled for delivery by 2017. "Flexibility has been a central theme in the development of the IMOIIMAX concept. The use of multiple small tanks allows for a versatile cargo combination, seamlessly integrating with our established logistics framework. Additionally, the innovative designs contribute to significant energy savings, which is undoubtedly a major benefit," said Erik Hånell, CEO of Stena Bulk. The STENA IMPRESSION is part of a joint venture between Stena Bulk and Golden Agri (GAR), each holding a 50% stake. These ten IMOIIMAX vessels will operate within Stena Weco’s expansive global logistics framework, which already includes approximately 50 vessels.
