On September 17, 2018, the oil tanker 'STI Hammersmith' encountered a harrowing attack while anchored in Conakry, Gulf of Guinea. Armed assailants opened fire on the vessel, targeting the bridge windows and gaining illicit entry into the accommodation area. Fortunately, the crew members took refuge in the citadel, resulting in no injuries reported among them. The intruders searched through the crew's cabins, stealing personal belongings before making their escape. A nearby navy boat promptly arrived at the scene to offer assistance. As of September 19, 2018, the 'STI Hammersmith' remained anchored in the same location, where it had been since arriving from Las Palmas on September 4.
