On April 26, 2022, a security breach occurred on the STI Magister while it was anchored near Chittagong at coordinates 22° 13.6’ N 91° 43.8’ E. The vigilant duty officer noticed approximately four intruders on the forecastle deck through the ship’s CCTV system. Upon spotting the unauthorized individuals, he promptly raised the alarm, notified the captain, and rallied the crew for a swift response. As the situation unfolded, the CCTV footage revealed that the forepeak store door had been forced open, with three of the intruders fleeing the scene immediately after the alarm sounded. Crew members dispatched to the forward deck witnessed the thieves escaping the vessel, either leaping into the water or descending the anchor chain, while a total of seven or eight assailants attempted to flee in a small boat. Following the incident, the crew performed a thorough search of the ship; thankfully, no additional perpetrators were located. However, it was confirmed that one set of gangway wire coil was missing. Fortunately, there was no reported damage to the STI Magister, and the crew members were unharmed. The event was officially documented and reported to the local port control and the Bangladesh Coast Guard. Around 2:40 a.m., three Coast Guard officers boarded the vessel to gather evidence, discovering footprints and a damaged lock at the forepeak store, which will aid in the ongoing investigation.
