On August 5, 2018, the tanker 'STI Poplar,' which was carrying a substantial 27,000 tons of fuel, collided with an oil terminal pier in Ploce, Dubrovnik during its mooring maneuver. The impact resulted in severe damage to both the pier and the oil transfer infrastructure, with debris from the terminal sinking into the water. Although the stern of the tanker sustained some damages, fortunately, there was no oil leak reported. Following the incident, 'STI Poplar' was anchored at Ploce to undergo a thorough damage assessment. Preliminary evaluations indicate that the repair costs for the terminal could run into several million Euros, leading to the terminal's closure for at least a week. This disruption is likely to impact the oil supply chains for Croatia, Bosnia and Montenegro.
