In a significant development, the Royal Malaysian Police have assumed control of the investigation involving seven Somalian pirates apprehended by the Malaysian Armed Forces. These pirates were caught in the midst of an attempted hijacking of the MV Bunga Laurel in the Gulf of Aden on January 20. The suspects arrived at Port Klang's Liquid Bulk Terminal on January 31 at 9:15 a.m. for a medical evaluation at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang. Following the health check, they have been placed in custody at the Bukit Jalil Detention Centre. The daring rescue operation, which was codenamed 'Operasi Fajar,' saw Malaysian naval commandos successfully thwart the pirates while safeguarding the 23 crew members aboard the Bunga Laurel, located approximately 333 nautical miles east of Oman. The intervention was carried out in collaboration with the Royal Malaysian Navy's auxiliary vessel, Bunga Mas 5. The operation culminated in a fierce confrontation, during which three of the pirates sustained injuries during the exchange of gunfire.
