Greek shipping company Tsakos Energy Navigation (TEN) is set to deploy its newly constructed aframax crude oil carrier, the Thomas Zafiras, under a long-term charter agreement with Statoil. This latest addition to TEN’s fleet has recently been delivered from Daewoo Mangalia Heavy Industries, marking a significant milestone for the company. In a previous collaboration back in 2013, TEN and Statoil entered into a strategic partnership, which involved Statoil chartering between five to nine aframax tankers for durations ranging from five to nine years. This new contract for Thomas Zafiras is expected to yield gross revenues exceeding $100 million. Notably, the Thomas Zafiras is the second vessel among a total of nine aframax tankers that TEN has commissioned. Furthermore, the company anticipates the arrival of a panamax tanker later this month, which is also set to engage in a long-term charter.
