Thun Tankers Unveils New LNG-Powered Vessel in Stockholm
On September 11, Swedish maritime firm Thun Tankers celebrated the christening of its latest LNG-fueled product and chemical tanker in Stockholm, a landmark event for the company. The ship, named Thun Venern, officially joined Thun Tankers’ fleet after being delivered in September 2018, following successful sea trials in August of the same year. This impressive vessel boasts a deadweight tonnage of 18,000 and was constructed by Avic Dingheng, a reputable shipbuilder based in China. Thun Venern is the third ship in a series of six sister vessels, all proudly flying the Swedish flag. This noteworthy initiative, aimed at reducing emissions and promoting sustainability in shipping, was undertaken in collaboration with Thun Tankers' partners from the Gothia Tanker Alliance, including Furetank and Älvtank, enhancing their collective commitment to eco-friendly maritime operations.
Thun Venern Joins Thun Tankers and Gothia Tanker Alliance Fleet
On Thursday, the Erik Thun Group officially welcomed the M/V Thun Venern, a state-of-the-art product and chemical tanker, following its successful delivery from AVIC Dingheng Shipbuilding Ltd. in China. This vessel marks the third addition to a series of six ships designed collaboratively by FKAB and Furetank Rederi AB. The Thun Venern is built with a significant focus on environmental sustainability, achieving nearly a 50% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to traditional models. It features advanced technology including Tier III compliance, dual fuel/LNG propulsion, and the capability of using LNG for both in-port consumption and IG boiler operation. Additionally, it is equipped with a battery backup (UPS) for critical systems and a specialized ballast water cleaning system, alongside an ice class 1A rating. With a deadweight tonnage (dwt) of almost 18,000 tons and a length overall (LOA) of 149.9 meters, the M/V Thun Venern will be managed commercially by Furetank Chartering, a proud member of the Gothia Tanker Alliance.
