In a significant move, Saudi Arabia's state-owned shipping firm, Vela, is set to increase its oil deliveries to the United States this month. This spike in activity marks a continuation of a trend that commenced in March, which, prior to this year, was relatively uncommon, according to shipbrokers who spoke with Dow Jones Newswires on Friday. Vela has secured charters for at least 10 supertankers, each with the capacity to transport approximately 20 million barrels of oil, to facilitate these shipments to the U.S. Some maritime brokers estimate that the number of tankers could rise to as many as 13. This surge in oil transport represents a significant escalation from the usual pace, which, experts suggest, typically accounts for only one tanker every couple of months.
