Working Conditions Aboard the Torm-Atlantic

In a significant move to boost its products tanker fleet, Maersk Tankers is set to add the 50,000-dwt tanker GIACINTA, which was built in 2010, to its roster. The Danish shipping giant is currently in negotiations with Motia Compagnia di Navigazione for the acquisition of this second-hand vessel, with expectations to finalize the transaction in the near future. While reports indicate a purchase price of $21.5 million, representatives from Maersk Tankers have chosen to remain tight-lipped about the financial specifics of the deal. Over the past year, Maersk has strategically shifted its focus towards the products sector after divesting a significant portion of its crude oil fleet. According to TradeWinds, the company is also actively pursuing LR2 newbuildings scheduled for delivery in 2017. In addition to this latest acquisition, Maersk Tankers recently procured four new medium-range (MR) tankers, each with a capacity of 50,000-dwt, from Horizon Tankers, reportedly at a price of $34.75 million each, aimed at replacing older vessels that have been sold off. The addition of GIACINTA marks a pivotal expansion for Maersk, who will see Motia's fleet shrink to just nine vessels following this sale.
