On December 22, 2018, while navigating towards Izmit, the tanker 'Torm Sovereign' experienced a significant leak of palm oil during its docking at Evyap port. The leak, which originated from the vessel's pumping system, prompted immediate action from local authorities, who launched an investigation into the incident. Environmental protection teams quickly arrived at the scene to manage the situation, deploying pollution containment barriers around both the ship and the adjacent pier. In response to the breach of local regulations outlined by MARPOL guidelines, the local environmental pollution prevention department issued a fine to the vessel. Furthermore, the Maritime Authority halted the ship's departure permission until the completion of the investigation and settlement of the pollution penalty.
