For several weeks, an international consulting firm has claimed that the ship was transporting 145,400 barrels of diesel fuel; however, local port authorities assert that the vessel is laden with fertilizers. Given the backdrop of the ongoing sanctions against Russia due to its aggression in Ukraine, the potential delivery of Russian fuel to Mexico could draw the attention of various nations, especially the United States. In a report by Argus consultancy, it was highlighted that the 'Loukas I' was supposed to be the first in a series of shipments of Russian diesel destined for the Mexican market, further complicating geopolitical tensions. Conversely, Guillermo Von Borstel, the commercial director of Guaymas Integral Port Administration (Asipona Guaymas), has firmly stated that the cargo consists of NPK liquid fertilizers, comprised of Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P), and Potassium (K). He emphasized that unless Mexican authorities issue an embargo or impose restrictions, the unloading will proceed as planned in Sonora.
