Uncertainty Surrounds the Future of the Trini Flash Water Taxi

Apr 04, 2018 11:31

The fate of the water taxi "Trini Flash" remains undetermined as investigations into the vessel's operational issues continue. A comprehensive cause analysis is currently underway, with results expected in approximately one month. The "Trini Flash", which served the route between San Fernando and Port-of-Spain, stepped in to provide inter-island transportation due to the ongoing repairs and maintenance of other vessels, namely the "T&T Express" and "T&T Spirit". In a report by the T&T Guardian on February 11, 2017, concerns were raised regarding the "Trini Flash"'s reliability. Passengers reported considerable delays as the vessel grappled with prolonged sailing times and persistent mechanical problems. This resulted in the journey duration escalating from a usual 45 minutes to an alarming 90 minutes. As the investigation progresses, stakeholders await clarity on the operational viability of the "Trini Flash" moving forward.

Incident Averted on Water Taxi: 'Trini Flash' Experiences Fire

Mar 28, 2018 19:20

On March 27, 2018, the 'Trini Flash' encountered a fire incident in the ceiling of its engine room, specifically situated on the starboard side of the vessel. Thanks to the prompt response of the crew, the fire was effectively contained, ensuring the safety of all aboard. Water used in the firefighting efforts was diligently pumped out from the engine room. At the time of the incident, there were 63 passengers and representatives on the boat, all of whom were unharmed by smoke or water, as these elements did not reach the passenger accommodation area. In a show of support, the ferry 'Cabo Star' was nearby and provided transportation for the stranded passengers back to Scarborough, arriving at approximately 12:30 a.m. Following this, the Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (PATT) graciously arranged accommodations in a guest house for the passengers at no charge. They were scheduled to return to Trinidad on an early morning Caribbean Airlines flight on March 28. The 'Trini Flash' was able to navigate to Staubles Bay, Chaguaramas, utilizing its own power.
