Working Conditions Aboard the Turbo-Voyager

On December 16, 2024, during a session of the Foreign Affairs Council, the European Union unveiled its latest sanctions package, incorporating 52 additional vessels into its sanctions list, with the notable inclusion of the 'Turbo Vpyager'. This action is part of the EU's ongoing effort to target entities believed to be aiding Russia's military initiatives amid the ongoing conflict. These newly sanctioned ships are predominantly linked to evading the Western-imposed oil price cap, facilitating arms deliveries, and transporting pilfered grain. With this expansion, the total number of vessels under EU sanctions has risen to 79. Many of these ships are specifically involved in the transportation of Russian oil and the supply of arms to the Russian military. Furthermore, this sanctions package has also identified 54 individuals and 30 organizations that are considered instrumental in reinforcing Russia's military operations. Notably, sanctions have been extended to include entities and individuals from China and North Korea, recognized for providing Russia with critical dual-use materials. Among those targeted are two high-ranking officials from North Korea, alongside seven individuals and companies from China. The overarching goal of these sanctions is to escalate operational costs for Russia, effectively preventing access to EU ports and limiting maritime services available to them.
