Kolkata, August 8 - In a remarkable display of swift response and maritime rescue expertise, the Coast Guard successfully evacuated an injured cadet from the merchant vessel MP Panamax-5 on Monday. Cadet Dilawar Ahlawat sustained serious injuries due to a deep cut from the ship's shifting crossover platform and steel plates. The situation became critical as the ship was unable to facilitate the cadet's transfer via port tugs, which were occupied with transloading operations at the sand-heads anchorage. The maritime rescue coordinating center in Haldia received an urgent SOS from the ship's captain regarding the injured cadet. Promptly, the Coast Guard's district headquarters in Haldia dispatched its high-speed interceptor boat CG C 418, under the command of Deputy Commandant P Modak, to execute the rescue mission. The transfer of the injured cadet at sea was completed successfully, and he was subsequently transported to Kolkata for further medical care. The efficient operation was executed by the dedicated team from the Coast Guard Regional Headquarters (North East), showcasing their commitment to maritime safety and emergency response.
