A dramatic rescue unfolded on February 27, 2021, when a man aboard the 'Varkan Ege' suffered a heart attack while the vessel was docked at Ellesmere Port. The North West Ambulance Service responded swiftly around 5 p.m., dispatching two ambulances, an advanced paramedic, and a hazardous response team to the scene. As the urgency of the situation escalated, firefighters were summoned to assist in the unique rescue operation, as the patient was located approximately 20 meters high on the ship. Responding promptly, three fire engines from Lymm, Ellesmere Port, and Chester, equipped with an aerial platform, arrived to aid in the rescue. Chester’s ALP and E09P2 appliance collaborated with the Ellesmere Port E08P1 crew and the NWAS Hart team to manage the cardiac incident effectively. After receiving initial medical care, the patient was successfully transferred into the hands of paramedics.
