Working Conditions Aboard the Vaygach

On the morning of November 21, the formidable icebreaker 'Vaygach' successfully guided a convoy of five vessels bound for the Far East through the icy waters of the Bering Strait. The ships included the 'Nordic Nuluujaak', 'Gulden Suek', 'Nordic Qinnsua', 'Golden Pearl', and 'UHL Fusion', which all continued on their journeys to their respective ports. After ensuring their safe passage, the 'Vaygach' turned back to render aid to three Russian cargo vessels heading to Arkhangelsk. By November 24, the icebreaker was once again actively engaged, leading a convoy through the challenging conditions of the East Siberian Sea. In heavy ice, the 'Vaygach' moved northward to rendezvous with three additional cargo ships and one tanker, including the Finnish bulk carrier 'Kumpula'. These vessels found themselves stranded approximately 150 nautical miles northwest of the icebreaker, all westbound and entangled in the treacherous ice.

On a remarkable journey through the Chukchi Sea, the icebreaker 'Vaygach' has successfully led a convoy of five ships bound for the Far East. This fleet includes the vessels 'Nordic Nuluujaak', 'Gulden Suek', 'Nordic Qinnsua', 'Golden Pearl', and 'UHL Fusion', all of which maneuvered through challenging ice coverage and fraught floes. The convoy is anticipated to reach the Bering Strait in approximately 2 to 3 days. Meanwhile, westbound vessels such as the 'Kuumpula' find themselves trapped in ice fields north of Kotelny Island, adjacent to the Laptev and East Siberian Seas, awaiting much-needed assistance.

On March 15, 2017, a notable maritime incident occurred in the Kara Sea involving the bulk carrier 'Nordic Barents' and the icebreaker 'Vaygach.' As part of an ice convoy, the 'Nordic Barents' collided with the 'Vaygach,' resulting in the freighter making contact with the icebreaker's wooden fender. Fortunately, the icebreaker emerged unscathed while the bulk carrier incurred a dent in its hull, without compromising its integrity or causing any breaches. Despite the collision, the convoy continued its journey through the challenging icy waters. The 'Nordic Barents' was on its way from Port Dickson to Murmansk at the time of the mishap.
