Search Underway for Overboard Passenger from Vision of the Seas on Christmas Eve

Dec 27, 2023 19:16

On December 24, 2023, a tragic incident unfolded as a 41-year-old passenger fell overboard from the cruise ship 'Vision of the Seas' while approximately 127 miles east of Charleston, South Carolina. The U.S. Coast Guard received an urgent report at 7:17 p.m. regarding the missing individual. Promptly after the incident, the ship's crew informed local authorities and launched a search and rescue (SAR) operation. To support the efforts, the Coast Guard dispatched a C-130 Hercules aircraft from Elizabeth City, North Carolina, followed by additional assistance from another C-130 crew based in Clearwater, Florida. As search operations continue, hopes remain for a swift resolution to this distressing event.

Disney Cruise Crew Repatriated to Trinidad and Tobago Amid COVID-19 Restrictions

May 27, 2020 12:36

In a recent development, a team of 53 Disney Cruise Line employees successfully returned to Trinidad and Tobago aboard the 'Disney Fantasy' following a prolonged period trapped at sea due to COVID-19 travel restrictions. The crew members disembarked via lifeboats and were promptly transported to a designated campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI), where they will undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine. As Trinidad and Tobago continues to enforce strict border controls to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus, these individuals faced weeks of uncertainty. Their situation prompted numerous communications to the Minister of Homeland Security, Stuart Young, lobbying for their repatriation. Just last week, Minister Young granted approval for Trinidadian crew members stranded on cruise ships to return home. On May 23, six crew members from the 'Caribbean Princess' were also permitted to re-enter the nation and were taken to the UWI campus for quarantine. Currently, there are more than 300 Trinidadians still aboard another cruise ship, 'Vision of the Seas.' Minister Young has been in discussions with the ship's owners to facilitate the vessel's anchorage in Trinidad and Tobago so that the nationals onboard can similarly quarantine for 14 days. Should the owners accept the minister's proposal, the Trinidadian crew will undergo health evaluations and be monitored while on the ship. At the conclusion of their quarantine period, they will be allowed to disembark and return directly to their homes.

Trinidad Nationals Safely Return Home via St. Lucia

May 26, 2020 13:29

On May 25, 2020, the cruise ship 'Vision of the Seas' arrived at the shores of St. Lucia, carrying a total of 345 nationals from Trinidad. As part of the disembarkation process, 72 St. Lucians left the ship and were promptly escorted to five waiting buses to begin their home quarantine. Before departing the vessel, they underwent a temperature check to ensure safety. In addition to the Trinidad nationals aboard the 'Vision of the Seas', around 20 more individuals were present on other Royal Caribbean ships, specifically the 'Serenade of the Seas' and the 'Majesty of the Seas'. All of these passengers were set to board the 'Vision of the Seas', which is destined for Port of Spain, contingent upon clearance from the Ministry of National Security. With the exception of the captain and several crew members, the Trinidadians onboard represent the last batch returning home. As for the timeline and process of allowing cruise workers to return, uncertainties still shrouded the exact sequence as outlined by the Ministry of National Security. On May 22, the Office of the Prime Minister broke the news that over 1,000 Jamaican ship workers would arrive on the 'Adventure of the Seas'. Those tested positive would be placed in government-mandated quarantine for 14 days, while those receiving negative results could opt for home quarantine following the same duration. Prime Minister Holness indicated the systematic release of the Jamaican crew would take place in groups of 200, closely monitored by health authorities. Additionally, six nationals from the 'Caribbean Princess', along with 52 others, returned to Port of Spain on Disney Cruise Line lifeboats on the morning of May 25. They were escorted by police to a facility in the south for health checks and will also undergo a mandatory two-week quarantine. After departing St. Lucia, the 'Vision of the Seas' is scheduled to make a stop in St. Vincent on May 29.
