Rescue Operation Prevents Disaster as Wappen von Borkum Runs Aground
On the evening of June 19, 2016, the passenger ship 'Wappen von Borkum', carrying 82 individuals, encountered a critical situation when it ran aground near the port of Borkum. With only two hours to spare before the low tide, the local Deutsche Gesellschaft zur Rettung Schiffbrüchiger (DGzRS) sprang into action. Their lifeboat, the 'Alfried Krupp', quickly arrived at the scene to assist the stranded vessel. Thanks to their timely intervention, they successfully managed to free the 'Wappen von Borkum' before the water receded too far, allowing the ship to resume its voyage safely.
