Xiang Fu Remains Docked Two Days Post Allision at Taichung Port
A significant maritime incident occurred at Taichung Port, Taiwan, when the bulk carrier Xiang Fu experienced a loss of mooring due to severe winds on February 20 at 12:26 a.m. This unfortunate occurrence led to the vessel colliding with the stern of the OSG Admiral, which was docked at pier no. 45. Following the allision, Xiang Fu ran aground but was successfully refloated by three tugboats during the high tide and re-berthed at pier no. 44 by 1:15 p.m. On the morning of February 21, port authorities conducted an inspection and investigation of both vessels involved in the incident. The OSG Admiral was able to sail away at 12:50 p.m., while the Xiang Fu remained at the port to continue discharging its cargo. Damage was reported on both vessels, with notable impact to the starboard side bulbous bow of the Xiang Fu and the starboard stern of the OSG Admiral.
Storm Causes Allision at Taichung Port Involving Bulk Carrier and Container Ship
On February 20, 2022, the bulk carrier 'Xiang Fu' became dislodged from its moorings at Taichung Port, Taiwan, during a severe storm impacting the Taiwan Strait and the western coastline. At approximately midnight local time, the vessel drifted away from its designated berth and collided with the anchored container ship 'OSG Admiral' (IMO: 9131022), which sustained minor damages from the incident. Following the allision, the 'Xiang Fu' continued its course across the port basin before ultimately running aground on the embankment. After approximately 11 hours of efforts, tugboats successfully refloated the bulk carrier, returning it to its original berth. Although the full extent of the damage remains undetermined, reports indicated that there was a potential oil leak.
