On August 25, 2014, the oil tanker 'Zaliv Vostok' reported the disappearance of its Second Officer after he presumably fell overboard. The incident occurred in the Korea Strait at coordinates 34° 15.4'N 127° 56.9'E while the vessel was making its way to Yeosu, South Korea. The Korean Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) is actively overseeing the search and rescue (SAR) operations. After the incident, the tanker successfully docked in Yeosu on August 26, 2014. Efforts to locate the missing officer continue as the maritime community rallies for his safe return.

On February 8, 2011, two fishermen had a harrowing experience after their vessel, the 34ft fishing boat 'Chloe-Paige', was unexpectedly struck by the tanker 'Zaliv Vostok' off the Suffolk coast. The incident occurred when the fishermen, who were trying to navigate safely, notified the 'Zaliv Vostok' about their situation. They were assured that the tanker would pass without incident. Unfortunately, the situation escalated when the 'Chloe-Paige' was pulled half a mile due to its anchor line before ultimately breaking free. Although the bow railings of the fishing boat sustained some damage, it emerged from the encounter with minimal harm. In response to the collision, the Yarmouth Coastguard was alerted, with its enforcement division also notified to take necessary action. The event has been logged in a pan-European database that shares vital information across ports in the region, although, as of now, no direct contact has been initiated with the tanker involved.
