Working Conditions Aboard the American-Pride

On September 19, 2019, the tanker 'American Pride' played a heroic role in a rescue operation involving three fishermen stranded at sea, approximately 45 miles west of Egmont Key. The situation unfolded when the 38-foot fishing vessel 'Captain Bob' capsized, prompting vigilance from the Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg watchstanders. Upon receiving a distress notification from the crew of the 'American Pride', who spotted the overturned vessel, swift action was taken. The tanker promptly deployed its rescue boat for an assessment of the scene. En route, the tanker crew spotted a distress signal in the form of a red flare and quickly altered course to investigate further. Upon arriving at the location, they successfully located two men and a woman who were safely aboard a life raft. Meanwhile, a 45-foot rescue boat from Coast Guard Station St. Petersburg was dispatched to the site. By approximately 9:45 p.m., the Coast Guard team reached the scene, boarding the three individuals who had been saved by the tanker and bringing them safely back to Station St. Petersburg. Fortunately, all three were released in good health. This incident followed an earlier alert on September 15, when the Coast Guard responded to an Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) signal from the 'Captain Bob'. Upon arrival, a Jayhawk aircrew found the vessel anchored and stable, but they faced challenges in establishing radio communication with the crew at that time. Thanks to the timely intervention of the 'American Pride,' a potentially tragic situation was averted.

On November 20, Philly Shipyard, Inc. (PSI), the exclusive operating branch of Philly Shipyard ASA (Oslo: PHLY), reached a significant milestone by delivering the American Pride, the last of four advanced 50,000 dwt product tankers commissioned by American Petroleum Tankers (APT), a subsidiary of Kinder Morgan, Inc. This delivery, made a remarkable ten days ahead of schedule, marks PSI's 28th vessel delivery. The American Pride is crafted based on a highly regarded design from Hyundai Mipo Dockyards (HMD) and is equipped with an array of features that enhance fuel efficiency and ensure flexible cargo handling. This state-of-the-art tanker also complies with the latest regulatory standards and has achieved LNG Ready Level 1 certification from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). Measuring 600 feet in length, the American Pride boasts the capacity to transport approximately 14.5 million gallons of crude oil or various refined products, marking a notable addition to Kinder Morgan’s fleet.
