The friend promptly alerted the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) of the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (DGzRS) around 5 p.m. A quick response was initiated, deploying the newly commissioned lifeboat from Grömitz, known internally as 'SK 41,' alongside the volunteer rescue team from Kühlungsborn, which dispatched the 'Konrad-Otto.' A ferry in the vicinity confirmed the yacht's distress location, intensifying the urgency of the situation. By this time, winds had escalated to eight Beaufort, generating two-meter swells that complicated efforts. The 'Arkona' promptly arrived at the scene, and its crew bravely navigated the challenging waters to rescue the exhausted sailor using a dinghy. Just as they completed the rescue, the Northern Rescue 02 helicopter from NHC Northern Helicopter landed on the scene, promptly airlifting the hypothermic sailor to safety and transporting him to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
