The Baltic: Crew Feedback and Vessel Data

In a concerning incident on April 12, 2025, a crew member aboard the tug 'Baltic' experienced serious injuries due to a fall from a height of approximately three to four meters. The distress call was made around 9 a.m. to the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) in Bremen, indicating an urgent need for medical assistance. At the time of the incident, the vessel was situated about 7.5 nautical miles off the coast of Warnemünde. Responding promptly, the 'Arkona,' a lifeboat from the German Society for Rescue of Shipwrecked Persons (DGzRS) stationed in Warnemünde, was dispatched with a volunteer marine doctor on board its supporting vessel, 'Caspar.' Once at the scene, and under moderate westerly winds of force three to four Beaufort, the 'Arkona' successfully moored alongside the 'Baltic.' A sea rescuer, trained as a paramedic, along with a volunteer rescue paramedic, navigated the moderate sea conditions to board the tug and immediately began stabilizing the injured crew member. After initial medical support, the victim was carefully transferred onto a stretcher and taken back to the 'Arkona.' The lifeboat then transported him to Warnemünde, where he was handed over to the shore-based rescue service for further medical treatment in the hospital.
