Working Conditions Aboard the Cypress-Galaxy

On March 20, 2026, the 'Cypress Galaxy' faced a detention in Yangzhou after being flagged for 13 deficiencies during an inspection. Of particular concern were two serious violations related to fire safety: the fire doors and openings within fire-resistant divisions did not meet required standards, and the fire dampers were found to be inoperative. After addressing these issues, the vessel was cleared and subsequently departed Yangzhou on March 24, setting sail towards Obi Island.

On the afternoon of August 16, 2011, a pilot boat from the Darwin Port Corporation collided with the stern of the oil tanker 'Cypress Galaxy.' The incident resulted in a significant hole on the pilot boat's port side. Thankfully, the damage was above the waterline, allowing the vessel to navigate back to port under its own power. The pilot boat was repaired at Cullen Bay Slipway. Eyewitnesses reported that the pilot boat was traveling at high speed alongside the tanker when the crash occurred.
