As tensions escalate in the ongoing conflict, Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces reported a significant strike on July 9, 2026, targeting 14 ships in the contested waters of the Sea of Azov. Among these vessels were the 'Chelsea 6', 'Aura', 'Ilya Repin', 'Mercury', 'Galiasgar Kamal', 'Venus III', 'Penelope', along with the tugboat 'Alfeo' and the barge 'Aphrodite'. The Ukrainian military's 414th Unmanned Strike Aviation Brigade, also known as Magyar’s Birds, revealed that their recent operations took aim at supply lines to the Russian-occupied territory of Crimea. On that particular night, the brigade successfully hit 12 tankers, a dry cargo ship, and a tug, contributing to an overall total of 35 vessels targeted during the week. Notably, the 'Chelsea 6' was tracked via AIS data until its last known position in the southern Black Sea five days before the strike. It's important to note that numerous vessels navigating the Black Sea and Sea of Azov often disable their AIS transmissions for security reasons, making confirmation of impacts on other ships more challenging.
