Marine Incident: UACC Shams and Celina Star Collide Near Algeciras
On November 19, 2016, a maritime collision occurred in the Bay of Algeciras when the tanker UACC Shams, en route from El Ferrol to Algeciras, collided with the container vessel Celina Star, which was departing the port heading to Livorno. The incident took place early in the morning off the shores of Getares beach. Fortunately, both vessels managed to anchor safely in Spanish waters with no significant damages reported and no risk of fuel spillage. The UACC Shams sustained a dented bulwark on its portside foreship, while the Celina Star reported several dents and abrasions on its starboard side aft; however, both damages were above the waterline. Throughout the event, the Port Authority maintained constant communication with its counterpart in Algeciras to manage the situation efficiently. Currently, both ships remain moored in Algeciras as investigations are conducted by the Investigation Commission for Incidents and Incidents (Ciaim) under the Ministry of Public Works. Tragic Incident on the UACC Shams at Portland Port
A man tragically lost his life aboard the cargo vessel UACC Shams on July 2, 2012, while docked at Portland Port. Emergency services, including police and the fire service, rushed to the scene after the man collapsed on the ship. He was quickly transported from the vessel to Portland Harbour and subsequently brought to the portside dock for treatment by ambulance crews. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. Authorities have confirmed that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident, and the coroner has been notified. A spokesperson indicated that an inquest into the manβs death will not be conducted. Additionally, Dorset Fire and Rescue played a crucial role in safely assisting with the transfer of the individual from the UACC Shams to the dock in the morning hours.
