On May 13, 2018, the tanker 'Grande Riviere' was spotted emitting thick clouds of black smoke as it approached the petrol port of Genoa from Aveiro. Witnesses observed the alarming sight and promptly contacted emergency services. Fortunately, it was determined that the cause of the smoke was linked to the auxiliary boiler's exhaust funnel, which produced an excess of smoke during the anchoring process. The crew took immediate action, updating the engine room and successfully adjusting the fuel oil air ratio to the auxiliary boiler. By approximately 8:20 p.m., the smoke was completely cleared. A subsequent inspection by a surveyor from the classification society NK confirmed there was no onboard fire. The 'Grande Riviere' safely berthed at 7 a.m. on May 14 and proceeded to discharge its cargo as planned. The management expressed gratitude to local authorities and the fire brigade for their readiness to assist in an emergency situation.
