Finnish Ferry Causes Tanker to Break Loose in Kiel Canal Incident
In a notable incident on March 16, 2014, the Finnish ferry 'Finnwave' (IMO: 9468932) inadvertently set off a chain reaction after leaving the Kiel Canal locks in Brunsbüttel. At approximately 9:30 p.m., while navigating eastbound from Antwerp to St. Petersburg, the ferry sped past the navy pilings located in Brunbüttel-Ostermoor. This miscalculated maneuver resulted in the moored tanker 'Jutlandia Swan' breaking free and drifting away. Fortunately, the tanker was promptly secured again and resumed its journey from Sillamae to Rotterdam at around 1:40 a.m. on March 17.
