RN Murmansk Grounded in Mudyug Canal: A Tale of Resilience
On the evening of November 24, the RN Murmansk experienced a grounding incident while navigating through the Mudyug Canal, as it was departing from the Talagi-Risneft Oil Terminal in Arkhangel, located in the White Sea. The tanker reported a fore draft loss of 0.55 meters during the incident. In response to the situation, a port tug and two icebreakers were dispatched for assistance. However, their initial attempts to refloat the vessel were unsuccessful, primarily due to the ongoing low tide conditions. Consequently, salvage operations had to be paused until the tide rose once more. Fortune turned the following morning, November 25, when the RN Murmansk was successfully refloated with the high tide. The tanker then continued on its journey, carrying 24,162 metric tons of oil bound for Amsterdam. Importantly, no damages or leaks were reported during this incident, ensuring a safe resolution.
