Major Collision at Sea: Trawler and Container Ship Incident

Feb 28, 2019 10:19

On the night of January 26, 2019, a maritime collision occurred between the fishing vessel 'Juri van den Berg - NG 1' (116 gt, IMO: 7904803) and the container ship 'Lantau Arrow' in the North Sea. The incident prompted a swift response from the Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution (KNRM), which dispatched the lifeboat 'Koos van Messel' from IJmuiden to assist at the scene. While the container ship, which had departed Rotterdam at 10 p.m. on February 26, continued its journey to Gothenburg, it successfully reached the Skandia Container Terminal on February 28 at 5:20 a.m. In the aftermath of the collision, the trawler was escorted by the KNRM boat to IJmuiden for a thorough inspection of the damage sustained on the port side. The trawler managed to move under its own power and safely arrived in port on February 27 at 4 a.m. The cause of the collision remains under investigation. Following necessary repairs, the 'Juri van den Berg - NG 1' set sail again on April 9 at 7:15 a.m. and docked in Den Helder later that same day at 3:20 p.m. For further details, you can refer to the report and photographs available at these links: [IJmuider Courant Report](https://www.ijmuidercourant.nl/cnt/dmf20190227_98306422/knrm-ijmuiden-ingezet-na-botsing-kotter-en-containerschip?utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic), [Shipspotting Photo 1](http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=2973242), [Shipspotting Photo 2](http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=2973243).

Collision Incident Involving Pacific Orca and Jurie van den Berg off the Dutch Coast

Jan 18, 2014 15:25

In the early hours of January 17, at approximately 2:15 a.m., a maritime incident occurred off the Dutch coast involving the offshore vessel 'Pacific Orca' and the fishing boat 'Jurie van den Berg - NG 1'. The collision took place around 14 miles north of the Wadden Islands while 'Jurie van den Berg', carrying a crew of six, was returning to Eemshaven following a fishing expedition. The impact resulted in significant damage to the starboard side of the fishing vessel, affecting its mast and boom. After the unfortunate encounter, both vessels momentarily halted their operations and remained in proximity to assess the situation. Fortunately, it was confirmed that the 'Jurie van den Berg' had not sustained any water intake, allowing it to navigate back to Eemshaven under its own propulsion. Meanwhile, the 'Pacific Orca', which was en route to the offshore Windpark Borkumriff 1, managed to return to port later that day at around 4:20 p.m. Notably, it showed visible signs of the collision, with dents and scratches visible above the waterline on the port side foreship.
