In a maritime incident that took place on April 8, 2016, the cargo ship "SW Monaco I," which was on a journey from Istanbul to Burgas, experienced a collision with the tanker "Kaan Sonay" at 3:44 a.m. This event unfolded approximately two miles northeast of Rumelifeneri, located at the entrance of the northern Bosphorus Strait. Both vessels were navigating in a northern direction after completing their passage through the Bosphorus. The collision resulted in damage to both ships. Following the incident, the tanker was secured at the outer anchorage of Kumkoy, while the cargo ship was subsequently moved to the Kumkoy anchorage for further assessment.
