On November 21, 2018, the tanker 'Baltic Mariner 1' was engaged in transshipping its cargo to the Danish tanker 'Nord Bell' (IMO: 9309980) at the Reina Sofia Norte Quay located in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The 'Nord Bell' had arrived and berthed alongside on November 20 at 9:15 a.m. Meanwhile, the 'Baltic Mariner 1,' which had entered the port partly loaded on November 14, faced an unfortunate incident upon arrival. As it navigated into Las Palmas, the vessel collided with the end of Muelle Elder (Elder Harbour), leading to the destruction of the tide gauge. Despite having a pilot on board during the incident, the 'Baltic Mariner 1' sustained considerable damage to its port side bow, with torn metal debris becoming embedded in its hull. Following the completion of the cargo transfer operation, the 'Nord Bell' departed on November 22 at 8:45 a.m., setting sail for Tenerife. The 'Baltic Mariner 1' subsequently berthed at the local Astican Yard on November 23 at 3:20 a.m. to undergo repairs. The vessel is scheduled to leave Las Palmas on December 22, heading towards Amsterdam, with an estimated time of arrival on January 3, 2019.
