The incident occurred roughly 26 miles south of Key West, prompting a swift response from Coast Guard Sector Key West watchstanders who received the medevac request at approximately 1:25 p.m. Shortly thereafter, the Coast Guard 7th District dispatched a skilled crew from Coast Guard Air Station Miami, utilizing an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter that arrived on the scene around 3 p.m. The man was successfully transferred to local emergency medical services by 3:30 p.m. and has since been moved to Lower Keys Medical Center for further treatment.
