On April 29, 2023, a critical medical emergency unfolded in the German Bight when a pilot aboard the vessel 'Elbepilot' required immediate assistance. The lifeboat 'Hermann Marwede' was deployed to provide support in this urgent situation. Fortunately, a nearby rescue helicopter from Northern Helicopter was able to swiftly drop off a dedicated ambulance team on board. After receiving prompt first aid while on the 'Elbe', the pilot was successfully hoisted and transported via helicopter to a mainland clinic for further medical care.

On July 31, 2018, a critical medical evacuation took place off the coast of Cuxhaven. The lifeboat "Hermann Merwede" was dispatched to assist a crew member aboard the vessel "Elbe" who was experiencing severe pain. The Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) received the alert at 8:15 a.m. and quickly coordinated the deployment of the lifeboat alongside the "Anneliese Kramer," operated by the German Society for Rescue at Sea (DGzRS) station in Cuxhaven. The operation took place approximately 20 nautical miles northwest of the port. Fortunately, a doctor was aboard the "Anneliese Kramer" at the time of the incident. He was swiftly transferred onto the "Elbe" to provide immediate medical care, stabilizing the patient for transport. The crew member was then moved to the "Hermann Merwede," where further treatment was administered during their journey back to Cuxhaven. Upon arrival, an ambulance was waiting to take the patient for urgent care.
