On August 20, 2013, a life-saving medevac operation took place involving the research vessel "Elisabeth Mann Borgese" approximately 10 miles east of Sassnitz. The vessel, traveling from Rostock to Sweden, reported a serious emergency due to a crew member suffering a cardiac arrest at 8:20 p.m. Promptly, the situation was communicated to the MRCC Bremen, which authorized an immediate evacuation of the affected individual. The DGzRS lifeboat "Harro Koebke," based in Sassnitz, was deployed to assist.
